So, what is direct primary care? It’s nothing new—in fact, it’s a return to a style of care that was more reliant on direct relationships between a doctor and their patients. No insurance is required. Patients pay a fixed membership fee that covers their doctor and any in-office services. That’s right—no insurance, no co-pays, and no deductible to worry about. Costs outside of the monthly payment are discussed before any procedure or test, and are discounted down to at-cost rates. Insurance is still recommended for instances where patients are in need of a specialist, surgeries, and emergency medical events—that is where insurance works best. But for primary and preventative care, direct care services provide patients with excellent service without the hassle and cost.
